Speaking section minimum required? [#permalink] New post 16 Sep 2010, 03:06
Hi,

I was wondering whether or not there is a Speaking score requirement in some schools. For example, I heard somewhere that for undergraduate/graduate degrees, Harvard requires a total score of 100 but at least 25 in Speaking. Not sure about MBA degrees.

In my case I have 109 but a miserable 22 in the speaking section.

Any thoughts about this?

Thanks!

I would like to know this information as well. I am not sure whether speaking score is important? I have good GMAT score, but speaking score needs practice to improve even if you are conversant in english.

For what it's worth, I think that a semi low speaking score (ie between 20 and 25) should not be much of a concern. I think that's why interviews are for: to assess your English speaking capability. What do you think?

I think for some schools the speaking score is very important. Some guy told me once that Harvard requires +26 for its Master graduate programs. Therefore, it would make sense that for the MBA they also require similar thing (though not stated), as the teaching method is full case method.

I also know that Chicago explicitly asks its Alumni interviewers to assess the English skills of the candidates during the interview.
