My dictionary tells that OTHER THAN is a preposition meaning with the exception of, except for, besides: Other than one sister, she has no close relatives.
It also can be used as an adjective meaning being distinct from that or those first considered; "all parts of the house other than the windows were in good condition"; "apparently took no clothes other than those he was wearing"
