There is hard and fast rule about subject verb inversion. You should look in the part of sentence which is not underlined. If there is subject present in not-underlined part and underlined part which is coming first then you have to make verb agree with the subject. The reverse case is also possible I mean if verb has appeared in sentence which is not underlined then you need to follow it by proper subject.

Go to this URL and there are plenty of examples for subject verb cases. Quite a few also use inverted sequence.
