Taking the GMAT a second time [#permalink] New post 31 Aug 2004, 06:42
Hi, I am planning to take the GMAT a second time by December. The last time I took it, I wasn't really prepared and got a low score. Will taking the GMAT a second time be a point against me in the application process? ... 4.0 student, and ok current job.

Any advice much appreciated. Thanks.

No, taking it a second time definitely won't be a knock against you. I don't know the exact number, but a lot of applicants take the GMAT more than once. In general, schools are willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, and they will take your highest score.

Just be sure that you're really ready the next time you take it. If you end up having to take it a third time, that could cause some concern among adcomms.

Best,
Scott

Hi,

Consider the following.

Chicago:

"If you score lower than you like, taking the test again can be a way to strengthen your application. The admissions committee looks favorably on taking the GMAT more than once, although we do not recommend taking the test more than three times. The highest of your valid scores will be considered the official one."
