I'm not sure how everyone here will take this, but I strongly believe that you should do what you enjoy. Before you know it, life will have passed you by. If you're worried about improving your profile, just start getting involved in things you enjoy, whether those things are related to your career or extracurriculars. As you become more involved, pick the most invigorating arena in which to take up a leadership position, and continue to do so. When it comes time to apply to b-schools, if you still want to do that, then you'll be in a much better position to tell an authentic and exciting story. Hope that helps and motivates you.

Candidates from non-traditional backgrounds always join MBA programs. I believe, teachers possess strong leadership skills as they take charge of classroom activities, lectures, class discussions, group activities etc. A good teacher always motivates her/ his students, draws out the best in them, and boosts their self esteem . She/ he not only teaches them text book material, but also acts as their guide and counselor. Also, teachers are actively involved in activities out side of classroom - arranging field trips, organizing house activities, chairing meetings etc.

So you see teachers have a plethora of activities that they can draw upon in their MBA essays as they possess variety of skills that B-schools are looking for in candidates. I have been a teacher for many many years , so I can say this from my experience.

I hope it helped.

If you find my post helpful, let me know by giving me kudos.

Thanks,

Poonam
