Re: UMich Ross vs. Cornell Johnson [#permalink]

From my research, it seems that Ross is much more well-regarded among top consulting firms (MBB). According to Businessweek, McKinsey and BCG are two of the top five recruiters at Ross (Deloitte and Accenture are there, too). On the other hand, neither McKinsey, Bain, nor BCG are listed among the top five recruiters at Johnson (although Deloitte and Accenture are).
To your other question, I am from the US, so I can't directly speak to the international recognition of both schools, but I have heard, on this very forum, international students say Ross is very well-respected.

I'm not a big fan of Ross but it's both bigger than Johnson and places more grads into top consulting firms so I'd go with Ross. I've lived in 3 countries other than the US and although the Cornell name may be slightly more famous overall, Michigan is still a global brand so I don't think that will be an issue.

If you are set on consulting, Ross is the obvious choice. However they are peer schools and if the $ is significant, then its a tougher decision for you. The reputation is about equal for both. I would not pick Johnson over Ross purely for the reputation.

For what it's worth, though MBB aren't top 5 employers at Johnson, according to this, they do come to campus. http://www.johnson.cornell.edu/Career-Management/Who-Recruits-Here.aspxI'm not interested in consulting, and from what I hear is that Ross is generally stronger than Johnson in this department, but my attitude is generally if you land in the top 16, you're in good shape for whatever function you want to pursue. In other words, go to Ross if you love it there, not simply because reports say you've got a better shot at MBB. Both Ross and Johnson are solid choices if you decide to go the Brand Management route.
