Hi Scott and Omari,
I am reposting this post (it's also posted in Linda's forum to get her inputs) in this forum to get advice from you.

You have evaluated my background before and have encouraged me to apply to big schools. I am in a process of researching schools and will apply for Y2006 term.
I think I am in a very unique situation and need to resolve it so that I can start shortlisting schools. So here goes.
Currently, I am working in US for past 3 and 1/2 years on H1-B work visa. H1-B is valid for 6 years after that you are supposed to leave the country for a year to get new H1. I don't have a green card, my company has filed for it but I don't see that happening before I go to school. And, if I leave this company to go to school, the processing of green card stops. You have to be employed with the employer who filed for your GC till you get it.
Anyway, I am planning to go school next year and I realize that when I graduate from the b-school, I will have only 1 year left on my H1-B visa. Though, for 2 years in school I will be on student visa, the INS rule is that you have to be physically out of the country for atleast 1 year to reset the counter and get the fresh new 6 years on your H1-B visa OR file for a green card, but if I am going to be at school, I can't do that either. This could be a severe constraint during job search after graduation.
So, I am in a fix. I am thinking of focussing on european programs (LBS, SAID, INSEAD mainly). But, I would really like to go to a US B-school with 2 years program where I will have opportunity to explore the B-world.
I also understand that if you graduate from top programs in US, you can find a job internationally or companies will do anything for you to get you on their workforce such as filing for your green card etc.
Can you please give me some insights on this? Do you know anybody at school who is in a similar situation? I really need to get going on shortlisting schools so that I can start preparing on my essays.
Your inputs are valuable. Thanks in advance.
