University of Victoria MBA - Canada [#permalink] New post 14 Jul 2010, 00:00
Hi,

Could anybody please tell me how is MBA @ University of Victoria in terms of
a) Quality of the degree and learning experience
b) Reputation of the university
c) Job Placements after graduation and Salary

I am very interested in their Entrepreneurship specialization that they offer in their MBA. I'm planning to give it a shot for the July 2011 admissions. My profile is as below

Degree: B.E (comp sci.) with 74%
Work Ex: 2 Years ( as of July 2010)
GMAT: 550

Would anyone recommend me to consider this option?

Thanks a ton ! Please chip in with your valuable replies !

I live in Victoria and I work for a company that works closely with the school. UVic is a very regional school - it's not world-renowned or even nationally known as a leader.

Could anybody please tell me how is MBA @ University of Victoria in terms of
a) Quality of the degree and learning experience
UVic is a very small cohort. It is typically locals who attend the school. In general, UVic is very co-op focused, and the MBA/MPA programs are no exception.

b) Reputation of the university
Like I said, UVic is a very small school compared to its counterparts at UBC and SFU. Even UVI and Kwantlen are huger than UVic. Locally, the school has a fine reputation, but it's direct competitor Royal Roads is growing in reputation. It has more options and a wider alumni base.

c) Job Placements after graduation and Salary
Victoria is a terrible market for MBA graduates. The only industries in Victoria are tourism, hi-tech, and government. All three provide meager salary expectations (especially the high tech industry) and there is very little room to grow. That being said, a co-op is a huge part of their program.

If you're interested in entrepreneurship and want to come to Victoria, I would strongly make a case for Royal Roads. They are very forward thinking and have an entire program in Entrepreneurship. They have a castle on campus.

Wilfred Laurier (in Waterloo, Ontario) has good Entrepreneurship program
What is your main focus? You say they have good Entrepreneurship MBA, is that what you want to do?
McMaster also has a good Coop MBA Program

Telfer definitely has a bigger name that New Brunswick. Ottawa vs. St. Johns should be a no-brainer for the post-career world as well.

I agree with LoveTheGMAT that McMaster's would be worth a try. In Canadian realms, McMaster is definitely a "Tier 2" school while UVic & Telfer are "Tier 3"... NB wouldn't be a top school by any means.
