Managing your irrigation system well and watering your grass wisely not only saves water, but helps to ensure the success of your lawn.

A. saves water, but helps to ensure the success of your lawn
B. saves water, but also help to ensure the success of your lawn
C. saves water, but the success of your lawn is more helpfully ensured
D. save water, but also help to ensure the success of your lawn
E. save water, but also the success of your lawn is more helpfully ensured

Any guesses ?

So I saw this question and my initial reaction was

B.

The correct idiom from memory is

Not only ....but also.

This helped me cross off A and C.

E was wordy so that baby was gone. I was left with B and D. And to me B sounded right.

When I saw your answer I looked back and instantly saw why D is right.

Managing your irrigation system well and watering your grass

That made it plural.

IMO D,

Firstly, check the idiom- Not only ...But Also.Hence A & C are out.
Secondly, "Managing your irrigation system well and watering your grass wisely" requires plural verb save ,help.
