Hi All,
I need some help in clarifying my doubts on the usage of pronoun its.
Sentence 1. In their latest press release, the company's new management stated a plan for expansion of its operations into the global software market via a series of acquisitions in Asia and Latin America.
the company's new management stated a plan for expansion of its operations the new company's management stated that they planned on expanding its operations
the company's new managers stated their plan to expand its operations
the new company managers stated their plan for its operations, expanding
the company's new management stated that they planned to expand its operations
In this sentence the pronoun its refers to Company's even though the role in the context of the sentence is adjective .
Sentence 2. Given its authoritative coverage of other science topics, the textbook's chapter on genetics is surprisingly tentative, which leads one to doubt the author's scholarship in that particular area.
the textbook's chapter on genetics is surprisingly tentative, which leads the chapter of the textbook on genetics is surprisingly tentative, leading the textbook contains a surprising and tentative chapter on genetics, which leads the textbook's chapter on genetics is surprisingly tentative and leads the textbook is surprisingly tentative in its chapter on genetics, leading
In sentence 2 its is referring to textbook which is in non possessive case and the usage is still correct.
Can someone please explain this to me why in one case its refers to a possessive Companies and in another context textbook and not textbook's
