Visitng Schools/Admissions Formula [#permalink] New post 03 Dec 2010, 10:29
Hi,

I heard that it increases your chances of admission if you visit the school as the school tracks this. I recently interviewed with Dartmouth because they have those pre interviews before you even can apply and I also visited a number of schools. However, I have not yet applied to any schools. Recently, I received a job offer and decided to take it and I plan to go to business school the following year. My question is, if I am applying for 2012 entry and visited the school/interviewed with the school (Dartmouth) for example, does the fact that I visited the previous year matter? Or should I visit again for 2012 admit? Thanks.

The importance of a visit varies by school, but in general it is true that schools do use this as an indicator of enthusiasm for a particular program, and they all want to know what an applicant has done in terms of researching their program. In your case, having visited a school one year and then delaying your application till the next isn't a real problem. When it comes time for you to apply, update your information - attending an info session in your home city is one option - and if you met any students during your visit, you might try keeping in touch with them in the meantime. For Dartmouth, you might send the person you interviewed with a short email, thanking them again for their time and saying that you accepted a new job and plan to apply for 2012 admit.
