Word count vs Character count [#permalink] New post 22 Oct 2007, 22:46
Are any of you guys paying attention to the character count of essays?

I've been working on a Sloan essay and it looked way too long. The word count was under 500, but the character count was around 2800 (no spaces). Another Sloan essay of mine was a little over 500 words but under 2500 characters. I guess I used bigger words in the first essay.

I'm starting to think word count isn't as important as the character count, which better represents the essay length.

Well. I would not worry about character counts. The schools judge your essay by how long it reads and if it feels longish, they will only check the word counts. As long as you manage the essays within 500 words, you are playing well within the rules and that is perfectly fine.

How many lines does your "longer" essay pass your "shorter" essay?

You probaly have extra characters at the end of your essay. Delete all the extra spaces at the end and see if that makes a difference.
