Just got admitted to Columbia's J-term. I am debating between CBS and Duke with $$. Need a decision back pretty soon and am pretty conflicted. I don't necessarily need to be in NYC after I graduate, career goals include social entrepreneurship/biotech. What do you all think?

Congratulation on your acceptance! I also got the call today to join CBS's J-Term class. I am choosing between NYU Fall (I already put in the deposit and registered for classes) or CBS J-Term. Would really like some advice on how to decide... will have to decide pretty soon.

Background

- Mgmt Consultant wanting to get into marketing / brand management
- Have company sponsorship to go back to old job if I want

Pro for going to CBS
- CBS name (although NYU and CBS are tied in some rankings so this may not be a big deal)
- Curriculum more fit with what I want

Cons for going to CBS
- Lack of summer internship (potentially impacting my long term viability to make a career switch into marketing. short term it's not a big deal as I'm likely going back to my old company until I satisfy the scholarship requirements)
- Lost of ~ 3K in deposits and admin fees
- Already left job so not sure what to do now in the fall
- Efforts to undo all the registration / loan stuff with NYU

The cons seem to outweight the pros so I likely will stick with NYU, and I really do like NYU, but CBS has been my top choice school for a while so I still want to consider the Jterm option carefully.

Thanks for the help!

congrats letsdothis and confused13 with the J-term. If I may ask: how quickly does CBS revert with the J-term app? I sent my app recently and am waiting for my recos to go in. Thanks.

Help with Columbia Business School viral video campaign [#permalink] New post 13 Oct 2011, 10:47
Hey everyone, I'm at Columbia and am taking a Social Media Marketing Strategy class. We are promoting a viral video as a class project.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKfiqtDTXYQ

I know it is a little cheesy and not exactly the best viral video ever. I didn't make it, I'm just in charge of promoting the video for my team. Our grade is based in part on the number of views we get. Would you all help a fellow business student out and view the video and maybe even help spread it a little? Thanks a bunch!
