Hello GMAT community,

I started to prepare myself for the GMAT in march, I took a 1 on 1 preparation class here in Bangkok and worked through the official GMAT book 3 times, I covered every part and every question. Today I had my first GMAT appointment and scored a total of 460 points, in detail:

Quantitative: 28 scaled score (Percentile 22)
Verbal: 26 scaled score (Percentile 40)
Total: 460 scaled score (Percentile 24)

My feeling regarding the AWA is pretty good, but I don't think that it will effect my overall total score a lot. I'm kind of disappointed, although I did three GMAT prep tests with the official software and scored 470 points. Right now I feel that I could not have done it any better. But I think that is quite normal, or? :?

Regarding my personal goal, I just see the GMAT as a bonus for my normal application. I am still in my undergraduate studies and I will graduate in summer 2011. I want to apply for a "normal" master studies, not a MBA, since I don't have any postgraduate working experience. My first language is german.

From your experiences, what do you guys advise me to do? When should I retake the GMAT? Do you even advise me to do so? When should I do it?

Thank you for your help

Welcome to GMAT Club Sambosoul!

I am not sure. If you don't need to submit gmat score with your app, I would not bother/worry about it. On the other hand, it depends on the score you are looking for. If it is 700+ that's a major undertaking but if you are looking for 600, then maybe it is 2 month with MGMAT Guides.

Take a look here should-i-retake-gmat-thread-retaking-gmat-strategies-83339.html

Dear BB,

Thank you very much for your help! I plan to take a 6 month break after my graduation in summer 2011, do you think it is a good idea to wait such a long time for the retake? I want to focus entirely on my final exams the next semester, and I think I will have enough time to prepare myself during this break. =)

Waiting a long time is usually not a good idea but it may be good in your case. Here is why - you will need to change your approach and strategies and i think some forgetting is good in this case. I would get MGMAT books and set aside 3 months to go through them.

However, ahead of time, you need to get your English up to standards if it is not. You mentioned your native language is German and you live in BKK - that's a lot of languages :)

Anyway, focus on your exams. If you screw up your GPA, it is impossible to Fix. GMAT can be taken many times!

By the way, see this thread: where-would-you-like-to-travel-94868.html

Well, I'm doing my mandatory internship here in Bangkok, and I have to go back to Germany in September. But I agree with you, since I also have to take the TOEFL test, it's a good idea to do the TOEFL and my 2nd GMAT attempt in this 6 month break because I can probably bundle my english skills from both tests.

I'd take TOEFL first; that's what i did and I thought it was helpful, though not as much any more now that TOEFL is completely different from GMAT (used to have grammar on the test).

Today I got my official GMAT score, at least I reached 4.5/6 in the AWA section, which is ok for the first attempt.
Now I'm thinking whether it's worth the effort to retake the GMAT or not, since I won't need it for the normal Master degree. Do you think it's an enrichment to my application if I enclose the GMAT to my application for non-GMAT masters?
My GMAT score is 460 and AWA is 4.5 out of 6.
