KUDOS

Since I cannot draw that Square symbol in my post, lets assume that square symbol to be &

We are told &m = 3m if m is odd.
&m = m/2 if m is even.

Using these &9 = 27, &6=3. Hence &9 X &3 = 27 X 3 = 81.

Now out the given options, don't forget that anwer choices are not simple numbers. They are all preceeded by &.

So out of given choices, take D....which is &27 = 27 X 3 = 81. This matches with our answrer.

I know what tricked you.....A would have been right, if choice was simple 81 rather than &81.

Pay attention to answer choices. They are not simple numbers!

Good one. I did not notice that answer choices were in squares as well and ended with A.

Since it is (3*9) * (0.5*6) = 81, just find the expression that equals 81 (D).

I guess the trick here (besides seeing "81" and picking A) is that some people will want to apply BOTH the "multiply by three" and "divide by two" operations to the numbers in the boxes in the answer choices, you you only apply one or the other, based on whether the number in the box is odd or even.

I can not find there any square.

The answer choices are written with squares around them. Choice A is 81 but there is a SQUARE around it. So choice A is not 81 but actaully 3*81.
only 27 with square around it will give you 81. 27 with a square around it = 3*27=81, which is right

Additionally, 81 could be [162] (162 is even, so = 1/2m=81) but there is no such choise
