Not that I know too much, but why not? I think the MBA's function is to help with the pivot. Are you trying to get into LBS?

Hi, it’s been a month since i started my prep for GMAT FE.
Here’s a summary of my profile:
10th/12th/BBA: (92/95/71)
Worked at PwC for 51⁄2 months (campus placement), and currently employed at a private broking firm.
Have 3 months of overseas experience in a project while I was at PwC.
No gap in career till now.
What GMAT FE score should I aim at for LBS?

That’s a very fair and nuanced question, especially coming from an Indian Male Engineer (IME) background, one of the most overrepresented demographics in the global MBA applicant pool. A GMAT Focus Edition score of 665 equivalent to ~720 in the older format is certainly competitive, but whether it is feasible for a successful pivot to Product Management depends on a few broader elements in your profile.
From a pure test score perspective, 665 GMAT FE puts you right around the median for many top MBA programs, including Duke, Ross, Tepper, and even programs like INSEAD or Oxford Said. For M7 schools, especially in your demographic, this score is just below the safer range, not a dealbreaker, but you’d need to compensate through the rest of your profile.
The 4 years of experience in software development is solid, and many top programs do appreciate tech professionals who want to pivot to PM roles. It's a natural evolution. But what’s critical is how well you’ve demonstrated product thinking or ownership in your current role. If you’ve worked cross-functionally, influenced roadmaps, or even participated in user-centric decision making, you should emphasize that strongly in your essays and resume.
Your storytelling and career vision will be key. Admissions committees will want to see a clear, actionable plan for how you’ll leverage their MBA to pivot to PM, especially if your past experience hasn’t been directly related to product management.
Yes, a 665 GMAT FE score is feasible but it becomes truly viable when paired with strong essays, thoughtful short-term goals, and evidence of leadership, initiative, or product sensibilities in your tech roles. Schools don’t reject IMEs for their test scores alone; it's usually the lack of differentiation or clarity in career goals that becomes the bottleneck.

Given LBS’s selective admissions process, I recommend aiming for the highest GMAT score you can achieve. While the average score typically falls between 660 and 670, securing a score above that range will further strengthen your candidacy and enhance your fit for the program.

Just wanted to check my suitability for the LBS MBA Program

Work Ex: 3 years in ZS Associates, on GenAI projects for multiple pharma companies like AZ etc. Led multiple teams and participated in hiring for ZS

That is technically sufficient if you really want to target R1, but it depends on how structured and disciplined you are with your post-GMAT time and work action plan. If GMAT doesn’t go as planned, consider having an R2 buffer.

Essays require brainstorming, multiple drafts, and feedback. For LOR, a well-briefed recommender is needed; getting them to commit and give time is key (Keep a good backup, too, for any last-minute disasters). Application form and school-specific answers also take time. Many applicants prep. essays and resumes in parallel with their final GMAT study. So, it needs to be a well-structured plan that can be executed consistently with focus and discipline.

LBS application is pretty taxing with unusually a lot of essays to tackle. You should at least have 20-30 days to make a standout application.

@Rakshit25 - It would depend on how many hours you spend on the application per day, your writing (and rewriting) skills, if you’ve done research on the school/ career goals, etc.

Broadly though, I suggest allocating atleast 1.5 - 2 months per school for the application work. Schools such as LBS and INSEAD tend to have more essays, so factor that in as well.

The incremental time per additional school typically reduces, once you get a hang of the process.
