Just had my interview with Ad com. Nothing out of the box but given my profile, there were lot of behavioural questions on professional side, it was 30 minute session but we went on for 65 minutes. Stick to the basics, your real reason behind mba, Carlson and STEM does matter! The school specially loves innovative and analytical people. With such a small class size it all comes down to how much dynamic you are in your soft and hard skills. MBA is just a medium so your rationale behind the pursuing this path must be solid. The last date of decisions is November 15th but it may be released before the deadline as well is what I have been told. It will include admissions offer and financial aid both. Read Less

Received an invitation to interview on 5 August, approximately 1 week after submitting an application. Interview was in person (I flew there) with the director of admissions. She met me at the doors and immediately was very warm and welcoming. She gave me the option of interviewing in her office or in the atrium to be in a more open space. I said I was fine with either, and told her I was vaccinated (and boosted) but had a cold that I had I caught from my daughter, who is in daycare, so I should probably continue wearing a mask throughout. She wore hers as well. The interview ran the full hour, and consisted of the standard "walk me through your resume," "why now," "why MBA," "why Carlson/Minneapolis?" questions. One question I remember was about a time I actively worked to improve the diversity of my organization. She also asked what other schools I was applying to, and rather than demurring I told her, as part of my narrative is my desire to return to the midwest, and I only applied to midwest schools (in round one, anyway...). She also gave some good answers to my questions, which I didn't pre-prepare; the conversation naturally led to them. When it was over, she said that she was sorry she had to wrap it up but was due for another interview right then. I took that as a good sign. It was my only in-person interview and easily the best interview experience, and likely my best interview performance as well. It's hard to compare in-person vs. zoom, but I'm certainly at my most comfortable with the former. The vibes at the place in generally were really good. It may not be ranked as high as some other schools but in terms of fit, I don't think any other place comes close, for me anyway. Read Less

FAQ

What GMAT score do I need for Carlson?

The average GMAT score for Carlson is around 680 (Classic) / 625 (Focus Equivalent) for the latest incoming class. As score is just one component of the application it does not mean that you can get in with 740 and someone will get dinged with 700.
Here is what you can use as a guide:
1) Are you from an over-represented demography? If yes, add 30 points to the average to arrive at a competitive score for your peer group.
2) Are you from a unique background or disadvantaged group such as a refugee or first-time college grad? You can subtract 30 points from the average and still get in.

What is the average GRE score for Carlson?

Carlson average GRE score for the latest incoming class is 315. The dynamics for most schools with GRE admissions is that a great profile with a lower-caliber GRE score seems to be acceptable but a below average profile will usually not be able to get in with above-average GRE score. As the result, the average GRE score may look very tenable but it may not result into an Admit. This is just an average score and schools admit a spectrum of applicants.

Does Carlson accept without GRE or GMAT?

For admission in Carlson, you may be eligible for a GMAT/GRE waiver if you meet the following minimum academic criteria: -Have a four-year undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited university in the U.S. or its international equivalent -Have a 3.2 GPA or higher (3.0 GPA or higher in STEM majors) in the most recent degree earned In addition to the above, you must also demonstrate program readiness based on, but not limited to at least one of the following criteria: -Progressively responsible professional, full-time work experience -Completed graduate degree (Master's or Doctoral) -Professional certifications of CPA or CFA -U.S. military service of 4 years, full-time All test waivers are granted at the admissions committee's discretion based on a holistic review of academic and professional accomplishments at the time of test waiver request submission.

What GPA do you need to get into Carlson?

Carlson average GPA is 3.5 note that the GPA is only calculated for the domestic US applicants and international GPA equivalents are not converted or included in this average. As the result, there is more leeway for international applicants as their GPA does not impact school's average but keep in mind that GPA's vary based on the prestige of the institution and rigor of the program attended. If your GPA is below 3.4 but is competitive for your program or background, you should address and explain this fact in the optional comments/essay available in the application specifically specifically for this purpose.

When is Carlson MBA program application deadline?

Carlson has 4 application deadlines:
Round 1 is November 15, 2024
Round 2 is February 01, 2025 (Last round for International Applicants)
Round 3 is March 15, 2025
Round 4 is April 01, 2025 (Domestic applicants only) Round 1 is best for admissions and scholarships. Round 2 tends to be the most competitive. Round 3 is not for friendly for most applicants and has the least chances of financial aid.

How long is the FT MBA program at Carlson?

Carlson Full Time MBA program is 20 months long. You will start the program in August/September (the first 1-2 weeks will be orientation) and graduate in April/May. The full-time MBA program has a break for a summer internship.

Does Carlson have a Part Time MBA program?

In addition to Full Time MBA, Carlson has a highly-ranked Part Time MBA program in several formats such as online and on campus.

How much is Carlson MBA tuition?

MBA is expensive! Carlson MBA Program costs $43,640 per year, plus $6,109 in required school fees. In addition, you will need an additional $23,572 per year for room and board (living expenses).

How many years of work experience do you need to get into Carlson Business School?

Carlson Requires at least 2 years of work experience for their Full Time MBA program. Two years is minimum and the recommended / ideal work experience is 5-6 years, which gives you more content for the application and is more likely to result into admission.
