I had opted for an off-campus, but in-person interview in Delhi-NCR region in India, but that was changed to virtual interview. I was matched with a 2nd year student from Chinese descent, who had done an investment banking intern. She was awesome overall: super kind, comforting and really attentive. The overall interview was for over 50 minutes, with roughly 10 minute for questions and rest was our discussion. The only minor challenge I had was maybe she didn't have the strongest command on English and didn't understand some of my statements, but apart from it I felt my interview went really well. Questions: Introduction Talk more about the kinds of projects you do What do you mean by carbon markets? What countries have you travelled to? Biggest Achievement Disagreement Why MBA? (I included ST and LT goals here) What Booth resources have you researched about how would that be helpful to you? How will you contribute? My Interview It was conversational and she shared a lot about her experiences at Booth as well. We talked about some common interests too, as they came up. 1. TMAY and Why MBA 2. Why MBA now given your age (I'm 24) 3. Why Booth? 4. TMAT you presented an idea to people, how did they take it, what did you do? 5. TMAT you motivated someone on your team and what techniques you used to help them grow (she asked me to talk about an instance I mentioned in a previous answer) 6. Where is home to you? (Im international) 7. Questions for me Those are the main questions, but she had a lot of followups about things I mentioned / tangential questions The meeting was scheduled for 45 mins but just ended up talking for 1h 15. Date: February 2025 Interviewer: Second-Year Student Format: Virtual (Zoom) Duration: ~45 minutes Interview Experience: My Booth interview was conducted by a second-year student and was overall a structured, but somewhat frustrating experience. The interviewer did not have a background in my field, which led to several moments of disconnect during our conversation. Throughout the interview, I noticed that she zoned out multiple times and even yawned on a few occasions, which made the interaction feel disengaged. Additionally, she frequently interrupted my responses and asked me to repeat answers, even for relatively simple concepts. This made it difficult to build a natural flow in the conversation. What stood out the most was that instead of focusing on my MBA goals and candidacy, the interviewer seemed more interested in extracting solutions for my startup idea. I felt like I was being asked for insights rather than being assessed for my fit with Booth, which left me feeling uneasy. Overall, the interview was not a positive experience—it felt more like an obligation for the interviewer rather than an opportunity to truly assess my fit for Booth. I was expecting a more engaging and structured conversation based on other Booth interview reports, but unfortunately, that was not the case for me. Questions Asked: Tell me about yourself. Why MBA? Why Booth? What are your short-term and long-term goals? Tell me about a challenge you faced at work. How do you work with people from diverse backgrounds? What happens if you don’t get into any business school? (This question felt unnecessary and condescending.) What is your startup idea, and what solutions have you considered? (This line of questioning seemed more for her personal curiosity rather than for assessing my MBA candidacy.) Final Thoughts: While I tried to keep my energy and focus up, the interviewer’s lack of engagement and technical understanding made it difficult to have a meaningful conversation. Unlike other Booth interview experiences I’ve read about, mine did not feel warm or conversational. That said, I understand that Booth evaluates candidates holistically, and a single interviewer’s feedback is only one component of the decision process. I appreciate the opportunity to interview, but I wish the experience had been more aligned with the school’s otherwise strong reputation for thoughtful interactions. Read Less

FAQ

What GMAT score do I need for Booth?

The average GMAT score for Booth is around 730 (Classic) / 675 (Focus Equivalent) for the latest incoming class. As score is just one component of the application it does not mean that you can get in with 740 and someone will get dinged with 700.
Here is what you can use as a guide:
1) Are you from an over-represented demography? If yes, add 30 points to the average to arrive at a competitive score for your peer group.
2) Are you from a unique background or disadvantaged group such as a refugee or first-time college grad? You can subtract 30 points from the average and still get in.

What is the average GRE score for Booth?

Booth average GRE score for the latest incoming class is 325. The dynamics for most schools with GRE admissions is that a great profile with a lower-caliber GRE score seems to be acceptable but a below average profile will usually not be able to get in with above-average GRE score. As the result, the average GRE score may look very tenable but it may not result into an Admit. This is just an average score and schools admit a spectrum of applicants.

Does Booth accept without GRE or GMAT?

Booth requires that you submit either a GMAT or a GRE score for MBA Admissions. Both GMAT Focus and GMAT Classic are accepted.

What GPA do you need to get into Booth (Chicago)?

Booth average GPA is 3.6 note that the GPA is only calculated for the domestic US applicants and international GPA equivalents are not converted or included in this average. As the result, there is more leeway for international applicants as their GPA does not impact school's average but keep in mind that GPA's vary based on the prestige of the institution and rigor of the program attended.
