By the time I got my interview invite, there were no more slots available so the pre-recorded interview on Kira was the only option. I can’t say I wasn’t disappointed because they always say it is better to do an interview with a student or alumni but that’s life. Just as I’ve seen reported by previous interview reports, there were 3 fixed questions and 2 are random behavioural questions, so I made sure I had the 3 fixed questions prepped well and practiced a few key stories for the behavioural questions. Questions asked: – What do you hope to accomplish out of your business school experience and why is Haas the right place for this? (FIXED). – Describe an experience in DE&I, whether in the workplace or at a community organization, that will enhance your contribution to the Haas community. (FIXED). – Tell me about a time you had to work on a complicated project and morale was low. – Tell me about a time you championed a creative initiative in the workplace. What was thought process and attitude? – Is there anything else you would like to add that hasn’t been covered already? (FIXED). Read Less

The interview was very laid back and straightforward – Super casual to begin where we discussed a bit about my work and appreciation for the Northern California area (I have family out there). We then started through the traditional questioning: 1. Tell me a bit about yourself. 2. Why do you want an MBA? 3. Why Haas? 4. Tell me about a time when you acted on creating Diversity & inclusion throughout your life. 5. How will you bring that perspective into Haas? 6. Tell me about a time that you encountered a challenge. 7. Tell me about a time when you had to manage a team. 8. Anything else you’d like to discuss? 9. Any questions for me? I can't say I wasn't disappointed because they always say it is better to do an interview with a student or alumni but it actually turn out to be a blessing. Interviewer was really cool and cheerful. She started by explaining the interview format and letting me know that she would be taking notes while I spoke. - Tell me about yourself - Why did you decide to go for an MBA? - Did you interact with any member of the Haas community? Why Haas? - What are your short and long term goals? - Tell me about how you've promoted diversity? - What do you like to do outside of work? - What's your favourite book and why? (She mention that this was her own original question) Then I asked her a couple of questions about specific courses which I heard students balloted for (she was genuinely surprised that I knew about it, so she happily gave her opinion). I also asked general questions on student life and her own current job. Read Less

It was a very positive experience overall. At the outset of my interview, I encountered difficulties joining the Google Meet session and later faced persistent internet connectivity issues, unfortunately. However, my interviewer demonstrated great understanding throughout. We managed to proceed partially with the interview despite the challenges, but she eventually had to conclude due to a prior commitment. She kindly suggested rescheduling to delve deeper into our discussion. Her friendly demeanor and reassurance that such hiccups are common made me feel at ease. Subsequently, we reconvened, seamlessly picking up where we had left off, and successfully concluded the interview. Here are the questions that were posed during the interview: - Introduction - Long-term and Short-term Goals? - Why Haas / Why MBA / Why now? - Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Experience? - Tell me about a time when you had a heated argument/discussion and were proven wrong. How did you react? What actions did you take? How did you feel? - Tell me about a time when you influenced someone to collaborate on a project outside of their scope. - Describe a moment when you took a risk in your professional career. - Any Questions for me? Towards the end of the conversation, after she answered my questions, she inquired about the other schools to which I had applied. I provided an honest response that I have applied to 5 schools including Haas and named them. I also emphasized the rationale behind my choices and highlighted that they were not arbitrary selections or solely based on prestige. Additionally, she asked if I had received interviews from any of the other four schools. I openly shared that I had interviewed at one additional institution, specifying its name, and mentioned that I am currently awaiting responses from the other schools. Although this conversation occurred more informally towards the end, it may have been part of the interview process. Read Less

FAQ

What GMAT score do I need for Haas?

The average GMAT score for Haas is around 740 (Classic) / 685 (Focus Equivalent) for the latest incoming class. As score is just one component of the application it does not mean that you can get in with 740 and someone will get dinged with 700.
Here is what you can use as a guide:
1) Are you from an over-represented demography? If yes, add 30 points to the average to arrive at a competitive score for your peer group.
2) Are you from a unique background or disadvantaged group such as a refugee or first-time college grad? You can subtract 30 points from the average and still get in.

What is the average GRE score for Haas (Berkeley)?

Haas average GRE score for the latest incoming class is 324. The dynamics for most schools with GRE admissions is that a great profile with a lower-caliber GRE score seems to be acceptable but a below average profile will usually not be able to get in with above-average GRE score. As the result, the average GRE score may look very tenable but it may not result into an Admit. This is just an average score and schools admit a spectrum of applicants.
