KAPLAN 800 MATH!!! [#permalink] New post 12 Apr 2007, 18:58
OMG!

I had this feeling that I had wasted my money (Amazon Int'l order so consider the shipping too!) when I attempted and finished all the math problems in the Kaplan 800 book.

The reason I bought that book was to get some practice on HARD math questions and thus build confidence.

Before buying it, I read reviews about the book and they were generally good. Many ppl recommended it for further practicing hard probs.

Well, the verbal probs (especially CR) were HARD all right, although they did not seem to resemble GMAT-like probs.... :?

But the math!!!! The reason why I bought that book!!!! was just NOT CHALLENGING AT ALL. PS (espcially geometry) was a joke. I did most of the probs within a minute and got them right... DS was a little better. Some PS geometry, I just read the question, answered it in 20 secs.

800......uh-huh. Not with such medium-easy level math probs.

I knew TPR (with Joe Bloggs) and Kaplan werent' that challenging, but I thought Kaplan 800 (with that 800 figure!!) would be different. Well, it wasn't. :x

I don't mean that the book is bad, but just to let you know that the math probs aren't as difficult as what they make appear. Verbal probs are challenging and with explanations, they could help you. :)

If I were in the states, and bought this book at a bookstore, I'd get a refund...

I am a little discouraged to hear this because I am just about to tackle it! I just finished OG11. I need to really do challenging problems, I only have 5 more days left!

So arre you saying that problems found in the official guide are of sufficient difficulty???

I bought Kaplan 800, but haven't gotten to it yet......would you suggest a more intense focus on the OG or is it worth the time to go through 800?

I would skip anything Kaplan related. They do not offer anything that cannot be substituted or bettered by another competing company.

Agree. I got it from the library, I skimmed through verbal, and never used the math. Somehow, the book was not anywhere close to the real thing, did not feel like using it.

The verbal part is helpful in difficult questions, I think.
For the math, it is just of medium difficulty. I agree it is not tough at all.
