Given that James received 3,600 acres and that Alfred received 20% more acres of land than James, so Alfred=3,600*1.2=4,320. Now, as Alfred also received 25% more than Stephen then Alfred=4,320=Stephen*1.25 --> Stephen=4,320/1.25=3,456.

Answer: B.

Or you can see that Alfred received the largest share (20% more than James and 25% more than Stephen ) and Stephen received the least share, so Stephen received less than James=3,600. Answer choice A is too small (33% less than 3,600) so pick B.

Hope it's clear.

I tried to do it a diffrent way.I got it till-Given that James received 3,600 acres and that Alfred received 20% more acres of land than James, so Alfred=3,600*1.2=4,320.

then I did Alfred 4320 Which is 25% mroe than stephen
I set it up as
4320 is 100%
____ is 75%
4320*75/100 and i did not get the answer. When i used 100% and 125% i got the answer but the diff is 25 % in both cases-why is one wrong?

1.2*3600=1.25s

u r said, that A is 25% MORE than S. it means A=1.25*S not 0.75a=s. if u want to express it in another way, then u should write down the following -100/125*A=S or 0.8A=S
