Here is the Q
Are positive integers p , q , and r equal?

1. p=q
2. q^2=R^2
(C) 2008 GMAT Club - m03#25

Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but Statement (2) ALONE is not sufficient
Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but Statement (1) ALONE is not sufficient
BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient
EACH statement ALONE is sufficient
Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient
Statement (1) by itself is insufficient. We know nothing about .

Statement (2) by itself is insufficient. It tells us nothing about .

Statements (1) and (2) combined are sufficient. Combining both statements and considering that and are positive integers, we can prove that .

The correct answer is C.

Why is it C?

as it could be that p=q 2=2 and q^2 = R^2 where R could be +-q

All of the integers are positive. That is stated in the stem.
