Assume the Ramos family does not plan to take their own child safety seats for their children. In accordance with the Ramos family's plans for their trip, for each of the following airlines, select Yes if the total of their round-trip ticket costs and baggage fees is greater than $1,800. Otherwise, select No.

The total cost equals the ticket cost for 4 passengers plus baggage fees for 3 checked items per flight (or less if some of those are free), since they are not taking their own child safety seats.

• A3: ticket 398 * 4 is just under 1,600; baggage 3 * 30 * 2 = 180; total is under 1,780, which is less than 1,800.

Answer: No.

• A4: ticket 475 * 4 = 1,900, already more than 1,800, so there is no need to calculate baggage.

Answer: Yes.

• A5: ticket 405 * 4 = 1,620; baggage 2 * 25 * 2 = 100 (first free, so only 2 charged per flight); total = 1,720, which is less than 1,800.

Answer: No.

Trip Plan

Strength: 2+2The Ramos family of 4 is estimating the cost of a planned trip that includes
Cost: 4 round-trip airline tickets (each consisting of 2 nonstop flights—one to their destination and the other back home) + 1 hotel room for the 6 days/nights at their destination.
Airlines: Round trip tickets and baggages - 3 suitcase + 2 Child safety seats if taken.
Local Tpt public - a total of $200, or car for the 6 days - 150 + 6*rental per day + rent for child safety seats.

1. For each of the following car rental companies, select Yes if the child safety seat rental fee is a greater percentage of the car rental fee than for Company C1. Otherwise, select No.
Last Tab
C1: 100*10/30 = 33.33%
C2: 100*12/27 = 400/9 = 44.44%.....Yes
C3: 100*9/32 = 900/32 = <30%.....No
C4: 100*13/35 = 260/7 = >35%.....Yes

2. In accordance with the Ramos family's plans for their trip, if they use Airline A3 and rent a car from Company C4, how much less would their estimated costs be if they take their own child safety seats for their children rather than renting the seats from Company C4 ?
We are concerned with cost that would be incurred due to carriage of safety seats and savings in rental.
Carriage in airline: 2*30 or $60 one way, so 2*60 or $120 for the trip..Imp: you are likely to make a mistake of not multiplying by 2 for the round trip.
Savings: 2*13 or $26 per day, so 6*26 or 156$ for the trip
Final savings : 156 - 120 =$36

3. Assume the Ramos family does not plan to take their own child safety seats for their children. In accordance with the Ramos family's plans for their trip, for each of the following airlines, select Yes if the total of their round-trip ticket costs and baggage fees is greater than $1,800. Otherwise, select No.
Key point: Only concerned with airline tickets and take baggage as only 3 bags.
A3: 398*4 + 2*3*30 = 1772....<1800
A4: 475*4 + 2*3*25 = 2050....>1800
A5: 405*4 + 2*2*25 = 1720....<1800

I had a different question on this MSR. Could someone please help? I cannot seem to find the right answer even though I tried many times.

Assume the Ramos family plans to use Airline A5. According to the information provided, if they rent only a car from the company with the lowest daily rate, then their estimated costs would be, at a minimum, how much more than their estimated costs if they use public transportation?

Total costs with rental: 27*6+150+25*2=362$
Total costs with public transportation: 200$
Difference: 161$
But answer is 212$.

You are wrong in the colored portion.

It is a round trip, so the cost on the trip back would also be included. => 25*2 is one way cost for two child seats.

Answer:-
Total costs with rental: 27*6+150+25*2*2=412$
Total costs with public transportation: 200$
Difference: 412 - 200 = 212$
