Hi

Appreciate if you can have a look at the below profile:

Target Year for MBA: 2014-15 batch
Target GMAT score: 730-750

Age: 23, Indian, Female

Academics -
Did my engineering from Delhi from an A grade university (University Among top 15 in India)
Engineering CGPA: 7.8/10 (Among top 5 in class topped final semester with CGPA of 8.8/10 )

Work Experience –
2 years with HCL as Software Developer.
• Currently interacting with developers from all over the world in solving their technical queries.
• Debugging their code.
• Giving technical training to freshers, mentoring them.
• Already developed applications .

My profile is more of marketing cum technical analyst where we interact with developers from all over the world and troubleshoot their problems.

Extra Curricular-

• Won the first prize from Defense Ministry of India fro a cultural dance at the Republic Day Parade.
• Won many certificates in dance competitions.
• Participated in many debates and literary competitions in college

I can get glowing recommendations from my manager and HR.
Though I have not joined any NGO but I am taking care of financial needs of my maid’s daughter, I teach her as well , I made her parents understand the need of education in her life she will be joining college shortly.
Planning to do some certification courses as well along with learning a language.

Please let me know my chances of getting into ISB ,HBSand other renowned Schools.
If possible please tell me considering my profile whether targeting 2014-2015 batch is fine or should I apply for 2015-2016 batch?

Hey vinijo,

Thanks for reaching out to me. Believe it or not (and based on the high-level information you have provided here), I believe that you do stand a good chance at HBS. The reason I say this is not pure speculation either. Over the past few years I have had a number of clients – Indian females – who have gone on to attend Harvard with less than a "stellar" profile (< 720 GMAT, few direct reports, and no one single significant "home run" extracurricular). The one thing I noticed as a theme was there innate resolve and remarkable ability to overcome obstacles, both professional and personal. This would require a deeper dive into your personal and professional history and we can do here on this forum – due to confidentiality.

With respect to the rest of your credentials that you described in your detailed post – you pass all the basic tests with flying colors. If my understanding serves me correctly (based on my interaction with my clients), I know that females in India may not be granted an equal level of educational and professional opportunities. (Please note - this not a absolute assessment or a condemnation of a great country or people, it's only my understanding based on my sample size - my clients - and the US has its fair share of similar issues as well!) If this is the case with you, it makes your achievements (as well as grades) that much more impressive.

Right now, I don't really see a clear reason as to why you should wait another year to apply. You should take your GMAT get it out of the way, and then apply R1 to HBS and a few other top programs. If you want to talk specifics about your background, please email me at MBA@amerasiaconsulting.com and ask to speak directly to me.

Respectfully,
Paul Lanzillotti
