Recommendation with wrong school name submitted by manager [#permalink] New post 06 Jan 2005, 14:23
So,

here is the situation...my manager wrote a great recommendation but he left the wrong name of the school in the recommendation. He has already submitted the application. Is there any way to rectify this situation? Would it help for him to call the Admissions office etc??

Please let me know if anyone has any insights to such situations.

thanks

whoops! Has the application deadline past? If it hasn't passed you might be able to perform a swap before it's "officially" read. If the deadline has already passed then it may have already probably been read in which case you can't really make the swap happen.

Either way probably worth a call to admissions office just to ask them what they think you should do. You don't have to tell them specifically who you are until after they respond.

Will it hurt my chances of getting in though?

Definitely doesn't help... but it's much better than if you had put the wrong name in your essays. In terms of impact, what probably plays a role is whether the rest of the recommendation is a complete replica of what was submitted to other schools or whether it was tailored to the correct school and the only mistake was the wrong school. If it's a complete replica of the recommendation to other schools than will hurt. If it's just a matter of the school being incorrect than that probably isn't that bad... In other words others have had that happen and still gotten in.
