TOEFL score received 111/120 [#permalink] New post 27 Sep 2009, 08:11
Folks,
Just noticed that my TOEFL scores have been uploaded online (didn't receive any mail). Got 111 with split as: R 28, L 27, S 29, W 27

After my test, I thought that I'll receive maximum score in writing section but surprisingly its speaking :O. I had only 10 days to Prepare for TOEFL after giving GMAT though I din't prepare for more than 3-4 hours in total. Got TOEFL official guide to get an overview of test format and straight away attempted reading and listening sections in practice test 1 given on CD accompanying the book. Didn't even bother to go through the book on which i spent 30 $. Just a day before i spent 2 hrs on pratice test 2 attemtpting again only Reading and Listening section. For speaking section, i just referred to examples to get an idea of expectations of test raters.

On test day, reached test centre about 1.5 hrs before the test as it was raining continuosly for past 3 days in the city and I expected due to flood like conditions, it may take more time to reach the place. Talked to my gf for an hour and then entered test centre. Pretty ordinary conditions for testing with administrators making noise every now and then. Started with Reading part and got 5 passages with total time of 100 minutes. Got totally blown off by long section and my upper part started frying. I am used to tough GMAT passages but not to 100 minutes of long boring essays. Anyways, started listening section and due to tiredness, it did affect my concentration and I suffered a minor lapse. Though from difficulty perspective, TOEFL doesn't stand even close to GMAT but due to long timings, you may get tired which can affect your concentration. After break I did speaking and writing section. Both were easy especially the writing section(AWAs preparation helped me here).

Stay cool and calm during the test and I am sure you will be able to sail through easily.

Retaking my GMAT on 29th Sep(660 earlier) and keeping my fingers crossed.
