However, because of the nature of their subject matter, laws of social science often have to use terms that are imprecise; for example, one knows only vaguely what is meant by "republicanism" or "class." Why I chose A is because E seems to be too extreme. There might be some social science laws that might be precise ie: "laws of social science often have to use terms", "systems are typically"

Took me 2:02 mins but ended up with A. Here's how I thought through it -
A) All else being equal, a precise, general scientific law is to be preferred over one that is not general. - No red flags, keep for now.
(B) The social sciences would benefit if they redirected their focus to the subject matter of the physical sciences. - No talk about what would benefit the social sciences. Eliminate.
(C) Terms such as "class" should be more precisely formulated by social scientists. - No talk about imprecise terms should be reformulated. Eliminate.
(D) Social scientists should make an effort to construct more laws that apply to all societies. - No talk about making more laws applicable to all societies. Eliminate.
(E) The laws of social science are invariably not truly scientific. - This one is tricky but the key word in the passage is "IDEALLY, scientific laws SHOULD", which means the passage is saying that in an ideal world, scientific laws would be precise and generally applicable. BUT social science laws are not. Thats doesnt mean SS laws are not scientific laws, it means that we will not have the ideal conditions of having precise and general scientific laws. Eliminate.
