X is a positive integer
Set S = [X, 9 , 2, 5]

Which cannot be the median of Set S?

4
5
6.5

Please explain your approach.

place the numbers in order and try x at different places in the set
if x is before 2 then the median is 3.5 so thats possible

4 is possible when x is 3
5 is possible when x is 5
6.5 is possible when x is 8

but 3 is never possible because if x is before 2 then the median is 3.5 and if x is 2 or more the median will have to be greater than 3.
