I like Tepper a lot. Even though, its not in my portfolio as of now, I will apply if I get dinged across the board in January.

I am looking at Tepper as a R2 application depending how my R1 schools go. I will have the application ready to go but if I hear back and am accepted by any of my R1 schools I wont bother. I definitely will go if I have to apply and get accepted, its a great school for my desired field.

This appearance of this school is that it's one of the easier top 20 schools to get into.
Am I mistaken because I need to get into at least 1 school.

I think that the difficulty to get in at CMU has a great deal to do with your background. Since CMU has a great reputation in the computer industry, so for an IT individual it is probably harder to get into than someone with a traditional business background. Honestly if you are an Indian IT person it is probably one of the harder "Top 20" school. They, like MIT, have a strong engineering school reputation so they draw very heavily on engineers and people with very technical backgrounds...so engineers and computer people are very competitive demographics for the school.
That said Tepper does seem to really really like high GMATs, so if you can nail a 750+ then it will really help your chances.
Take a look at admissions411 and it helps to illustrate this.

Yeah, I did notice that they were an IT school.
I'm not IT, but from investment management and hope it won't hurt my chances.

What's the general word with interviews.
I know you can request interviews, but are you at a disadvantage if you don't request an interview?
Due to the large volume of interview requests, interviews are granted only at the discretion of our MBA Admissions Committee after an initial review of your submitted MBA application. However, If you are planning a campus visit before submitting your application, or if you would like to have an interview during one of our off-campus events in the Fall, you may request an interview by faxing your resume and GMAT score (if you've taken it) to us at 412-268-4209.

Its a safe bet if a school allows you to request an interview then you should request one (unless its only on campus)...if they can't accommodate your request at least you made it. By not requesting an interview it will seem like you aren't that serious about the program.

I am also applying to Tepper, I visited last year during Womens weekend and feel in love with the school, the students, and Admissions have been very helpful. I do have one small problem which is, this school is known as a quant heavy, IT school, and I am looking to go into consumer products or retail consultant, coming from a background in fashion. I felt as though Tepper picks the brightest bunch of students out of the schools I have visited.

I am applying in R1 too. The only school I am targeting in R1 (besides ISB in India). Am an Indian-IT person ... so I guess I'll have heavy competition. But CMU has always been a dream destination.

Did you guys take a look at the Student Financial Statement and Affidavit of Financial Support?
http://www.tepper.cmu.edu/mba/admission ... index.aspx
Do you know if this is new this year or they've always required international students to do this?

Bump.
How are your essays coming along?
It's hard for me to focus because this school is the last of 3 for my R1 deadlines.
Essay C is a hard one too. I can't think of anything to write for the first 2 parts.

I haven't put any thought into this yet. I am waiting to R2 if I apply at all. I am hoping to have some early success in R1 so I dont have to stress about R2 yet. Tepper is a great school for my career goal so I definitely will apply if I dont have any success during R1.

1. Describe an obstacle you have faced in your professional or academic life. How did you overcome this obstacle and how did it foster your development?
I was thinking of writing about my failed grade in this essay. The obstacle is that because of the failed grade I couldn't graduate in the spring. I had to take summer school. This frees up my optional essay for some other info, but talking about the failed grade may not be approriate for this question.
