I think B is right answer for correct comparision between "oeuvre" and "the novel".
Its not C because I guess we care comparing plural ( those of H G Wells ) with singular ( novel written by ) . Had it been novels I guess that would have been right. But in this context it cant be novels as William wrote only one.

Read carefully- in c 'those' means plural, refers to 'novels' but wen u look at the second part it is singular- 'novel' which is incorrect.
for c to be correct it shud be 'novels' in d the second part which makes it plural or change those to that to make it singular in d first part.

like 1+1=2 in maths it cannot be 11
it shud b 'pens' n not 'pen' cuz u r using those n those is plural
