Modifier question. By installing special electric pumps.,... Who installs? Farmers , So clear D.

it is between C and E. yes it is modifier problem ... electric pumps ...who installs? an engineer ..
so I go with C for clarity and active voice.

I agree it should be D since the farmer installs.

OA pls. there seems to be no error in D, C has modifier error as stated above, this is widely tested in gmat.

Who is reporting?---------------> Reporter
Hence D is the best choice

Is it necessary that the starting phrase in thuis case "by installing ... pumps " has to modify the subject of the sentence ?

so between A and D which has farmer( the subject) in the beginning , we reject A because of passive voice. am i correct ?

"By installing special electric pumps" is incorrectly modifying "farmers' houses." Answer choice D corrects the error.
