i think you mistook, actually engineer is reporting, only farmer installs ..

there seems to be no error in D, C has modifier error as stated above, this is widely tested in gmat.

Is it necessary that the starting phrase in thuis case "by installing ... pumps " has to modify the subject of the sentence ?

so between A and D which has farmer( the subject) in the beginning , we reject A because of passive voice. am i correct ?
