This question came up on my mock 4 for the Focus Edition. I am very certain there is an error in the question... I wasted 7 minutes on it and got it wrong.

bb I think the question does imply that the two legs of the triangle are perpendicular as it states one is headed West and the other headed North - with no disclaimer otherwise, the assumption should definitely be that the roads are perfectly perpendicular.

The last line should be 12 instead of 13.

Sajjad1994 I believe the comments above are correct that the final answer choice should be 12, not 13, could you please edit the question? Thanks!

This question is clearly testing the concept of Pythagorean triples (5, 12, 13), if we are aware of it and can apply it it will take a few seconds only !!!

The last answer changed to 13.
The assumption that this is a perpendicular relationship is a stretch in my view, but is the only way to solve this question ...

Is there a process to report a question?

Simply click on "Report a Problem" button and write up the issue to report (usually technical issues are reported).

PS: Do not report any explanation-related queries or questions. In that case, just write in the reply to the question.

Sajjad1994 I believe the consensus above is that choice E should say "12" instead of "13"; if you have a chance, could you please confirm that this is the OA and edit the question?

Hello GMATCoachBen

This is an official question, and I cannot change the value myself unless it is officially modified by the GMAC.

Thank you.

That is not even ambiguous, but a clear cut wrong answer. Better to archive it till a response comes from GMAC unless more students get confused and waste time on it.

Got this question on my Mock 4 of FE yesterday.
This q is wrong on so many levels.
First of all it is geometry related with is explicitly excluded from FE syllabus.
Secondly, even the answer choices are incorrect and I sill got "13" in the last line on my mock.
This was the first q I got in DI section and went incorrect. No wonder my score took a hit.

13 is surely a wrong answer and 12 is the correct answer.
9:12:15 is a Pythagorean triplet as \(9^2+12^2=15^2\)

Official question having an error is generally rare but then I believe no one is perfect. We would approach GMAC on the question and hopefully either the question is discarded or option changed.
