Hi
I require help with these 2 CR questions.....
1) In many surveys, American consumers have expressed a willingness to spend up to 10 percent more for products that are ecologically sound. Encouraged by such surveys, Bleach-O Corporation promoted a new laundry detergent, Bleach-O Green, as safer for the environment. Bleach-O Green cost 5 percent more than typical detergents. After one year, Bleach-O Green had failed to capture a significant share of the detergent market and was withdrawn from sale.
Which of the following questions is LEAST likely to be relevant in determining the reasons for the failure of Bleach-O Green?
(A) How effective as a detergent was Bleach-O Green?
(B) How many other detergents on the market were promoted as safe for the environment?
(C) How much more did Bleach-O Green cost to manufacture than ordinary detergents?
(D) To what extent did consumers accept the validity of Bleach-O Green advertised and promoted to consumers?
(E) How effectively was Bleach-O Green advertised and promoted to consumers?
2) The burden of maintaining the U.S. highway system falls disproportionately on the trucking industry. Trucks represent only about 10 percent of the vehicles on U.S. roads. Yet road use taxes assessed on trucks amount to almost half the taxes paid for highway upkeep and repair.
Which of the following, if true, would most weaken the argument above?
(A) The trucking industry has enjoyed record after-tax profits in three of the past four years.
(B) Because of their weight, trucks cause over 50 percent of the damage sustained by highway surfaces each year.
(C) Without an economically viable trucking industry, the cost of goods in the United States would rise significantly.
(D) Road use taxes paid by trucking companies have decreased by 3 percent over the past five years.
(E) Due to years of neglect, U.S. highways today are badly in need of major repairs and rebuilding.
The OA for #10 is C and for #11 is B but i got D and D respectively. Please explain why it is so.
Thanks!

The ans is C
Which of the following questions is LEAST likely to be relevant in determining the reasons for the failure of Bleach-O Green?
(A) How effective as a detergent was Bleach-O Green?
If not effective ppl won't buy it
(B) How many other detergents on the market were promoted as safe for the environment?
If all other detergets are safe, ppl might not buy Bleach-O Green
(C) How much more did Bleach-O Green cost to manufacture than ordinary detergents?
To consumer it does't matter how much Bleach-O Green costs to the manufacturer as long as it's price in the market is within the 10% range of other detergents in the market.
The cost to consumer metioned in the question is the selling price for the manufacturer which is imp to the consumer and not the cost to the manufacturer.
(D) To what extent did consumers accept the validity of Bleach-O Green advertised and promoted to consumers?
If consumer doesn't accept the validity of the product.....it won't be sold.
(E) How effectively was Bleach-O Green advertised and promoted to consumers?
If not promoted properly......the product might not sell in the market.

Which of the following, if true, would most weaken the argument above?
The ans is B
(A) The trucking industry has enjoyed record after-tax profits in three of the past four years.
Doesn't explain why truck companies should pay more taxes
(B) Because of their weight, trucks cause over 50 percent of the damage sustained by highway surfaces each year.
This explains why truck companies should pay more taxes..........since they cause more damage to the roads
(C) Without an economically viable trucking industry, the cost of goods in the United States would rise significantly.
Doesn't explain why truck companies should pay more taxes
(D) Road use taxes paid by trucking companies have decreased by 3 percent over the past five years.
But why so they have to pay more than other users........not explained
(E) Due to years of neglect, U.S. highways today are badly in need of major repairs and rebuilding.
No reason why truck companies should pay more

(A) How effective as a detergent was Bleach-O Green? (B) How many other detergents on the market were promoted as safe for the environment? (C) How much more did Bleach-O Green cost to manufacture than ordinary detergents? Only this question poses irrelevant information for the reasons for the failure of beach-o-green. All other choices provide some information that is relevant. Hence C is the correct Choice (D) To what extent did consumers accept the validity of Bleach-O Green advertised and promoted to consumers? (E) How effectively was Bleach-O Green advertised and promoted to consumers?
2) The burden of maintaining the U.S. highway system falls disproportionately on the trucking industry. Trucks represent only about 10 percent of the vehicles on U.S. roads. Yet road use taxes assessed on trucks amount to almost half the taxes paid for highway upkeep and repair.

(A) The trucking industry has enjoyed record after-tax profits in three of the past four years. (B) Because of their weight, trucks cause over 50 percent of the damage sustained by highway surfaces each year. If trucks are themselves responsible for the 50% damage cost then more tax should be chaged on trucks and hence it weakens the agrument(C) Without an economically viable trucking industry, the cost of goods in the United States would rise significantly. (D) Road use taxes paid by trucking companies have decreased by 3 percent over the past five years. This by no means justify the higer tax rate for truks in US. Remember we have to weaken the agrument. hence not the correct choice (E) Due to years of neglect, U.S. highways today are badly in need of major repairs and rebuilding.
The OA for #10 is C and for #11 is B but i got D and D respectively. Please explain why it is so.
Thanks! Lavanya
