Can't you say discriminate from? I like A. Just as distinguish can use both from and between.

I was thinking either C or E
I like Discriminate between x and y
but also in E I thought there was an idiom that went like this: discriminate whether x or y.
If I had to pick one, I'd go with C.

you have to discern one diamond FROM another, therefore A
from walkers idiom list
discriminate X from Y ( X and Y fall into same category) here diamonds
discriminate between X and Y (2 diff categories)

"discriminate" vs "distinguish" i think we can say he can distginguish the lemons from the oranges but not he can discriminate the lemons from the oranges
