okay.
my choice is A.
because more than 50 million does the work of an adjective.
hence "the" should come in the sentence as it is referring to a particular population group.
"the turks"
for example-
"the brave turks" where brave is substituted in place of more than 50 million.
Hope this time i am correct
E would be correc correct if of the over 50 million.

No, it's not about "although" vs. "despite." It's about the definite article with the number of Turks. If the number is known, which I believe is the case, then the definite article should be used.
I had a similar question on a test some time ago. I chose an answer with "the" and was right.
