Thanks very much Dahiya.. I checked the original thread posted by Gaurav as well and understood the error i was making. I had in fact chosen C initially but somehow fell in the trap of assuming that PROTECTING was showing Continuous action which was incorrect.

All sorted out..thanks

The answer must be (C). For a textbook explanation as to why the terminal modifier is best here check out a very similiar problem in Kaplan 800: pg 184 (#59).
