Hi All,
Here is how i broke it down.
From 1980 to 1989, total consumption of fish in the country of Jurania increased
by 4.5 percent, and total consumption of poultry products there increased by
9.0 percent. During the same period, the population of Jurania increased by
6 percent, in part due to immigration to Jurania from other countries in the region.
If the statements above are true, which of the following must also be true on the
basis of them?
A. During the 1980’s in Jurania, profits of wholesale distributors of poultry
products increased at a greater rate than did profits of wholesale distributors
of fish.
B. For people who immigrated to Jurania during the 1980’s , fish was less
likely to be a major part of their diet than was poultry.
C. In 1989 Juranians consumed twice as much poultry as fish.
D. For a significant of jurania’s population, both fish and poultry
products were a regular part of their diet during the 1980’s.
E. Per capita consumption of fish in Jurania was lower in 1989 than in 1980.
This is how i understood in getting to the solution.
Stmt 1: 1980 to 1989 increase in Fish consumption Rate - 4.5%
Stmt 2: 1980 to 1989 increase in poultry consumption Rate - 9%
Stmt 3: Population increase 6% - Due to immigration of people from X
We are asked to find "must be true":
A -
profits of wholesale distributors Irrelevant, since nowhere the wholesale distributor is mentioned in the premise.
B -
major part of their diet than Out of scope, no mention in the premise regarding the food habits. Even if we do make an inference, it is too much to conclude regarding likes and dislikes here.
C -
In 1989 Juranians consumed twice as much poultry as fish.. This cannot be true since there are no substantial numbers provided that would say 4.5 % Increase in Fish and 9% increase in poultary resulted in some comparable quantity which may show that poultry quantity > fish quantity.
D -
Significant population - regular part of their diet during There is no proof in the premise to show that people really consumed major part that is produced. Too much out of scope. It might be true that they export major part, or major part of production goes waste or anyother reason.
E - Per capita consumption of fish in Jurania was lower in 1989 than in 1980. (The most intresting option out of all). Consumption per capita = Consumption/Population.
Here it is stated in premise that Fish consumption increased and population increased. Therefore the value decreases. Even if we say that consumption increased negligibly then per capita consumption will decrease.
Please provide your suggestions.

Warm Regards,
MS
