Speed of jerry = x, speed of jim = y
time jim needed to finish 2000= 2000/y
time jerry needed to finish 2000= 2000/x
if jerry gives jim 200 metres. That means when jerry begins race, jim is 200 metres forward him. i.e. jerry runs 2000, jim runs 1800
2000/x=1800/y-0,5 ...............(1) (30 seconds=0,5minutes)
if jerry gives 3 minutes, he is beaten by 1000 metres.
i.e. when jim finishes 2000 metres, jerry only runs 1000 metres but jim runs 3 minutes more.
we know from 1 that, jerry runs 2000 metres 0,5 minutes faster than jim runs 1800 metres. That is jerry runs 1000 metres 0,25 minutes faster than jim runs 900 metres.
Attention this is tricky point.
Before 0,25 minutes of beginning of jerry, jim passed 1100 metres line. so jim runs 1100 metres in 2,75 minutes. speed of jim=1100/2,75=400 metres per minute. jim runs 1800 metres in 4,5 minutes. Jerry runs 2000 metres 0,5 minutes faster that is 4 minutes. That makes jerry's speed 500 metres per minute.
Jim runs in 5 minutes, jerry runs in 4 minutes.

time jim needed to finish 2000= 2000/y
time jerry needed to finish 2000= 2000/x
if jerry gives jim 200 metres. That means when jerry begins race, jim is 200 metres forward him. i.e. jerry runs 2000, jim runs 1800
