Today I'm sitting in my accounting class trying desperately to quickly fill out an application for a large bank (no its not IB, its a general mgmt role) when, much to my surprise, I run into some application questions like "What do you see as a key strategic opportunity for us in the next 5 years?" ... ARGH!!! ... I'm rushing to get it done before the class starts... I whip together something about the relative illiquidity of some crap, when suddenly this comes in via email:
"We are very pleased to invite you to interview with.... big name firm"Yay. My first official interview invite! Then my trillian screen pops up with:
"Did you get it?"
It's a friend. I reply. "Yea, did you?"
She answers: "Yea. Did you get one from X too?"
Suddenly the elation is gone: "Huh what??? X sent one out too? No I didn't, did you?"
"No, but XXX did and that !@((!@ is recruiting for banking!!!"
During class break, the only conversation you here is whether or not someone made the closed list at X, Y or Z. There's a lot of elation, and a lot of sad looking faces too. I run into good friends who didn't make it and it's kind of awkward. Everyone seems more on edge. Suddenly, the flood gates have broken, pandora's box is open and everyone eagerly awaits their fate...
It's just like the application season all over again.
