I am a long time lurker but first time poster at gmatclub and sure enough, I am looking for some advise/opinion.
Unlike most of the crowd, I am from a scientific field- more specifically, I am working in chemistry in a hightech materials company, which is small in a size and scope of growth is fairly small. After working for 5 years my salary is 74k plus 5-10% bonus and few thousand dollars in incentive cash for patents/inventions.
I did my BSc from a top university in India, did MSc from one of the IITs and fianlly did another MS at a small university in midwest US. I would conservatively rate my educational achievements as better than average. Off the 5 years at work, I spent 3 years in a biotech company, however in all those 5 years I was never been a part of the managerial level. Being a scientist I spent much of my work day in lab. From my work experience I saw how badly a company can be managed in biotech. And I also observed how other companies are persuaded to invest in a vague biotech assets. I feel that I have the strength and capabilities to make the right investment decision to a pharma/biotech company. I believe to put myself in a role of investment consultant I do need to go through an MBA program.
At this moment I am sure there will be a lot more opportunities in chemical industries but I am not too sure how my expertise will fit into their equation.
Please chime in if you think I am thinking it right, that is go out for GMAT and then go for a part time MBA (sort listed NYU/Temple/Leigh/Drexel because of proximity to my office) and finally move my career to a new direction. Your critics are welcome.
