Hi,
The mentioned below is the answer for your query.

General Education:
Timing: Apply in 1-2 years so that you have strong set of professional/community involvement experiences
Schools: Target schools in the top 15 which focus on entrepreneurship, spread your risks by applying to 6-8 schools across the spectrum.
General Advice: Solid undergrad and strong work experiences. International flavor of experiences is a huge plus. A strong GMAT score will definitely help to strengthen your case. Curious to see more leadership experiences which demonstrate ability to take initiative and drive a team towards a common goal. Try and seek more opportunities both at work and outside which will help showcase the fact that you have produced results while leading teams and also showcase your spirit of entrepreneurship.

Hello There

Looking at the 2012 class profile at Columbia the students scored in the range of 680-760 in their GMAT, at Kellogg’s 80% Range of GMAT score 640 - 750 with mean score715 and at Wharton’s MBA class of 2012 the students scored in the range of 650-770 in their GMAT and the median GMAT score being 720. Hence a GMAT score of 700 plus is advisable if you are aiming for top institutes abroad. So congrats on your GMAT score.

However it is not just the academics but beyond the academics that will help you in determining your candidature. Generally most of the applicants have a good 4-5 years of full time work experience apart from part time work exp or internships. Although it is not just the work experience that counts but also what you did there like-what were your achievements, what initiative you took, what changes you drove in your workplace etc. So if you can show that in 5 years you have demonstrated the skills business schools are looking for you can put in a strong set of essays.

Make sure you follow the ‘show rather than tell’ principle so that the admissions committee could really understand your strengths and differentiating factors.”

Wow, I can't believe this 'FutureWorks' is allowed to post here when the responses are quite clearly prerecorded and seem to be generated by a bot searching for buzz words. But seriously, congrats on the GMAT that you haven't yet taken!

Just to let you know we are hardly a bot as you can see, we have a format of replying to queries, and try to stick to it.

I have checked on the mistake we have made and would like to apologize for the same. Also thanks for pointing it out, otherwise it would have completely gone unnoticed.

How ever in the future we will change the way of replying.

Hi encrypton,

I hope the following answers your questions.

- For your GMAT score, I would aim for a 700 at the very least. The average GMAT scores at top schools are rising. For example, the average GMAT score at Harvard Business School this past year was 730.

- You did not discuss your progression at work, but make sure to show this in your career. Emphasize your leadership experience and your managerial skills.

- Regarding your reasons for doing an MBA, you should develop school specific reasons. For example, Wharton and Harvard are both world class institutions, but they are very different and you will have a different experience at both universities. Admissions teams will want to know, why them?

-For your timing, you should apply when you feel your application is strongest. Just avoid applying in the last round (which is typically round 3 or 4.)

Hope this was of help.

Cheers,
