I may be naive in asking this question but wanted to understand the concept. Can someone tell me what's the difference between :-
Kim needs a tennis trainer, like her brother.
Kim needs a tennis trainer like her brother.
how does putting a comma (,) alters the meaning.Plz help
sentence 1:Kim needs a tennis trainer, like her brother.==>when you put a comma ..you are comparing the subject of both...so in this case there is clear comparison between KIM and HER BROTHER.
sentence 2: Kim needs a tennis trainer like her brother.===>now here there is ambiguity.
there can be two meaning of the sentence:
1)kim needs trainer who looks like or similar to her brother(comparison between brother and trainer)
2) kim needs trainer as his brother needs (comparison between kim and his brother)
so second sentence is ambiguous.
hope it helps
