Congrats Praveen for your admission with one of the gr8 B-school. Chicago, my dream school, has best professors in finance, statistics, economics, accounting. In what subject are you majoring? If you are majoring in Finance, do not forget to take courses that Prof. FAMA teaches, however there are many. He is one of the prominent financial theorists.

All the best.....

Thanks every one for your kind words.

ywilfred, I am not really sure of the answer to your question yet. HIMALAYA not really sure to your question either

Anyway, here is my profile and admission experience

Male, 31 years

Education:
M.S (mechanical Eng), Michigan Tech GPA 4.0/4.0
Got few research publications under my belt.
BS: Mechanical Eng ( Bangalore, India)

GMAT: 690 ( Q46,V38, 91%).

Experience:
Approx 8 years of varied experience in software consulting, CAD/CAM, Technology etc
Member of few national software steering committees

Schools Applied so for: UChicago
Schools accepted:UChicago

Preparation:
Unfortunately, I didn't get a whole lot of time to prepare for the application. I was very busy at work, later on went to hawaii for a vacation  8-) . Finished all the essays on a saturday before the dead line. Got them edited by two other people (my brother and my wife). Obtained two rec letters each from a co-worker and my former advisor at school.

Completed the application on 6/11/05, interviewed on 6/14/05 at 6:00PM at Gleacher center in the downtown campus. Interviewer goes by the name "Ten". Interview went ok. Usual questions such as "why you want to do MBA" "why now" "tell me about yourself" etc and nothing really fancy. For the most part my answers were consistant with what I had written in my essays. Interviewer told me usually they get about 5000 interview requests and they have around 105 admissions per year. That kind of freaked me out. Anyway, two days after the interview when I checked my messages I had a wonderful message from the associate dean informing that my application has been accepted for admissions!.

Future plan: Uncertain

I just want to thank you all for your support. You all are like a family to me. I hope and wish every one of you to get into top school of your choice. One tip for your application essays is that be truthful and pour your heart out in words. Please don't hesitate to contact me if I could be of any assistance.

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU ALL :gl

Thanks
Praveen.

Hi Praveen,
You deserved it. Our best wishes are with you. I am sure you will get out of this uncertain period. Please remeber you are not the only one facing it. I have couple of friends that went through the same pain. But they managed every thing though at the last moment.

We all pray that you get through the remaining formalities.

Good Luck!

Praveen,
Chicago GSB is one helluva school. Congrats on the admit.

Though you can think the best for you but I would just say that dont let monetary contraints stop you from attending school. Somethings are worth the risk and this definitely is.

Thanks a lot for your support. The thing is I didn't expect to hear from them so quickly, so I have very little time to decide.

University of Chicago

"Weekend MBA Program
Weekend Program students are admitted once a year to begin studies in the autumn quarter. About 350 students are enrolled; they take classes on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gleacher Center. Students generally take two courses at a time—one in the morning and one in the afternoon, completing the degree in about three years."
