John Miles Reviews

Company: Admissionado

John is a music lover at heart (and has attended over 400 concerts), threw 80s parties in NYC in the early 2000s, and at 18 years old, held up a sign and sang a song with Sting. He also does an impression of Franck Eggelhoffer, from the film, “Father of the Bride.”

As an associative thinker, John has parlayed his ability to think of 10 ideas at once into connecting disparate things, whether people, words, or businesses. You say Portland? He will likely link Fred Armisen, Nike, and Johnny Marr (of The Smiths) together. He is a “double Dukie,” which, in Blue Devil parlance, means he attended Duke for both undergrad and MBA. He was an English major, prefers writing custom poems over gifting traditional cards, and spoke to his fellow MBA classmates at graduation about how the personal activities and interests dwelling at the bottom of your resume can actually make you a more engaging professional.

He founded and runs a company that creates stories which position businesses and individuals for growth. After college, John spent 8 years at Goldman Sachs, helping to start and grow the insurance asset management business. After Fuqua, he advised early-stage companies, developing product and investment stories and sourcing business development partnerships for them, and in 2013, he was the Co-Founder of a cross-sector venture development company, Art & Science Collaborative. Based in Los Angeles at the time, he eventually helped lead the build-out of the world’s first commercial dance brand at Millennium Dance Media. He also trained for 8 months to try to qualify for the 2012 IRONMAN World Championships, but…wait for it…he didn’t qualify. Sigh.

He partners with his clients from a point of empathy, having spent much time as a pre-med student in hospitals and as a volunteer with a local ambulance. The embed we see reporting from the front lines with military teams is the analogous model John follows when guiding - with you, side-by-side through the entire journey, helping you craft, and make sense of, your own value and stories.

John DC Miles and the Admissionado team has been a tremendous help throughout the MBA application process and i wouldn't been able to achieve the same result without their help. Unlike other admissions consultant, where you only have contact to one admission officer who will handle your entire case, Admissionado work as a team and offer second opinion from a team of writing experts to ensure that you put your best foot forward in the admission process.

Overall really happy with the assistance provided by the team and would highly recommend their services (especially the deluxe package) to anyone that is planning to ace the admission process.

Amazing experience with John DC Miles @ Admissionado

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by school email address [?]

I worked with John DC Miles from Admissionado for 4 R1 M7 applications. I was admitted to my dream school. John was an amazing consultant and became a personal friend and mentor. I spoke with 8 admission consultants from 6 companies and decided to go with John as he was a great fit. My initial strategy call with John exceeded my expectations. His ability to deconstruct and digest information while providing insightful thoughts was critical in building a strategy plan. He provided prompt (2 days) and honest feedback on my essays. Most importantly, John would spend multiple hours on the phone answering my questions and addressing my concerns.

Great Experience with John

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

John and the team at Admissionado are an amazingly helpful, knowledgeable, and to the point team, and without their insights into my application, I am rather sure I would not have been able to get my admit at Georgetown, but that too with generous funding.
John took the utmost care in understanding my background and my goals, assessing my strengths and weaknesses, and helped me put my best foot forward through school selection, my resume, and SoPs.
The team is very responsive, polite and accomodating and the whole experience with them despite being primarily through email was very smooth.
As I said before, I am quite sure I would be able to bag the admits I have without John's guidance and I highly, highly recommend
Admissionado.

John DC Miles and the Admissionado team were incredible to work with, exceeded all my expectations, and I couldn’t have gotten into multiple top-tier executive MBA programs without their support and guidance! I highly recommend trusting John as your partner through your MBA admissions journey.

Having interviewed multiple MBA admissions consultants before my intro call with John, I immediately recognized that he stood out from the rest. John struck me as being highly knowledgeable and capable and a consultant who would genuinely listen to my story and help me tell it in the best way possible, in my way.

Throughout the entire process, John was a pleasure to work with. John was my strategic partner, who was very engaged and personally invested in my success. John pushed me to work hard from end to end, pulling my application together in the most genuine and compelling way. In addition, John and his editing team were highly efficient. They provided exceptional feedback for fine-tuning my resume and essays, allowing us to complete all deliverables within the ~ four rounds of edits included in the package. However, I firmly believe John would have put my needs first and made exceptions for additional rounds of revisions if my work wasn’t top quality.

I used Admissionado’s Deluxe package for all three schools I applied to, and I appreciated that level of support for each application.

John DC Miles is a top-notch admissions consultant, and I consider myself fortunate to have had the chance to trust him as my strategic partner through this process.

It was my pleasure working with John for my LBS MiF application, he helped me and guided me through the whole process especially finalizing the essay and walk me through the interview process. Really appreciate his effort!!
I really appreciate his help and he was always there whenever I had questions or any rush requests. He provided a very useful tips for me while writing the essays, it was very useful. He is very knowledgeable about the program I applied even though my program is not an MBA program. I will highly recommend people to work with him if you want to apply for any master programs.

Can't recommend enough

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by membership [?]

I really enjoyed working with John Miles on my applications to 3 of my dream Schools - Wharton, Haas and CBS; converted the first two with $$.

Coming from a super-competitive applicant pool - Indian Male Engineer - I didn't think I'd get into any of my dream schools, and it wouldn't have been possible without outstanding effort from John and the entire Admissionado team.

Right from the introductory call, I knew I was in great hands. John showed genuine interest in getting to know my background and motives, and understand my choice of B-schools better. What followed was a well-documented analysis and action plan on my strengths and areas to focus on. It was very targeted at me, and had helpful insights on how to make myself stand from the crowd.

I thought I was too late for R1. But the team's prompt responses to my essay drafts and highlights on what to edit & how made sure I was able to submit my R1 applications well ahead of time - without compromising on the quality.
Turnaround on most essay drafts wasn't more than 2 days, better than the 3 days they had promised. Their edit suggestions forced me to introspect more, which ended up making me fill in some of the important details in my essays - something that my lazy mind wasn't originally prepared for.

Special thanks to Rose and Claudia for being on top of the game from behind the scenes, and cheering me up always.
The team is really great (and efficient) at what it does.

All in all, a really great experience working with them and will highly recommend at least setting up an initial phone call with them - you won't be able to turn back from there.

Outstanding Admissions Consultants!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by school email address [?]

I first reached out to Admissionado in 2016 with the team. We began the consulting process when I decided to take a pause on the MBA application process and instead accepted a job. When I reached back out in 2020 the team picked right back up where we left off. They honored my initial package and redid a strategy session with me to understand all that happened in my career since last we spoke. When evaluating my overall profile, John and the Admissionado team encouraged me and gave me the confidence to go after top schools in Round 1, despite my below-average GMAT and GPA stats, and accelerated timeline (I began the process in mid-August 2020). They helped me set up a very detailed workplan to get my admissions package together in time to meet the Round 1 deadlines for my target programs, and kept their team ahead of that plan.

John really impressed me with how invested in my story he was. By truly understanding who I was, my vision for my career, John helped me craft my essay so that I came to life on paper. Additionally, John’s specific admissions journey (Fuqua acceptance with average stats) provided insights and encouragement during my journey. I initially engaged them to help me craft my essay for one of the M7 schools. As we put together the first few versions of my essay for that school, John identified that another M7 school might be a better fit for me and what I wanted to do. Prior to that conversation I lacked the confidence in applying to that school as I believed I would be an automatic reject. I will now be attending that program this fall which would not have been possible without John and the Admissionado team.

I could not recommend John and the whole Admissionado team more. They all were personable, detail oriented, and organized throughout the entire admissions process, turning a stressful situation into something very manageable. Most importantly they care. My successes were their successes. When I received my acceptances, I could not wait to share the good news with my Admissionado team!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ADMISSIONADO FOR YOUR MBA APPLICATIONS!

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by school email address [?]

I had a great experience working with Admissionado! I decided to get a consulting service to sharpen my application, especially since my GMAT was average and I was struggling on how I should position my story.

I had an introductory call with a few different consultants - Admissionado was the last one. I was scheduled with John DC Miles, and after our first call, I knew John understood exactly why I was struggling. He got me. He’s extremely empathetic, having spent time in pre-med (same as me), and right then I knew who my choice of consultant would be.

John created an Action Plan based on everything we talked about: my goals, background, target schools, and other concerns. I was extremely impressed by John’s speed and ability to stitch together my story/ theme I should aim for based on my background.

The part of the application process causing the most stress for me were the essays. However, after I sent in the first draft, John returned them promptly with suggestions, edits, encouragement, and a full plan on how to structure the essay for maximum effectiveness and impact. The quality of the edits we conducted on my essays blew away my expectations. They really make sure you are being as concise as possible in all your app components: main essays, short essays, resume, and interview - no fluff. Further, Admissionado says that all drafts will be retuned within 72 hours, however I noticed John was returning most drafts much sooner - and even working weekends - when I would have the most time.

I ended up getting in to all the top schools on my list except for one!

I want to thank John (who I HIGHLY recommend), and the whole Admissionado team (Claudia and Rose) for their help, encouragement, and prompt responses. I was DREADING planning my essays and undertaking the application process, but their support took the pain out of the process, and looking back, I had fun! When it came time for interviews, I was not nervous at all because I was prepped so well for anything they could throw my way. I highly recommend Admissionado if you ever think about getting a consulting service for your MBA application. Five stars aren’t enough to express my gratitude or show the quality of their service.

Do not Recommend

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I worked with John during the 2020 admission cycle. I can confidently say the Admissionado program is essentially nothing more than a essay review service and the advice provided led to no tangible difference in my applications. I was not accepted to any of the programs in which I used John, I would highly advise not spending your money on this service.

Overall I would say that the helpfulness was low. The process was stressful and they focused too heavily on attempting to sell you additional services. They did not meet my expectations. The value for money is definitely very low.

John is a phenomenal consultant

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by school email address [?]

Before signing up for Admissionado, I did a few free consultations and was unimpressed by their cookie cutter approach and encouraging me to only apply to schools where my GMAT score was 20-40 points above the average. After my initial consultation with Admissionado, I had a follow up call with John and was impressed with how personable he was and confidence he demonstrated in his ability to get someone like me coming from a tough demographic and work experience in finance into a top ten school. I was particularly drawn to his personal background getting into Fuqua with below average stats and his understanding how to craft a coherent story that highlights not only my work experience, but also incorporating my life story to overcome my average GMAT score.

As long as you bring the creativity and are willing to put in the work, John and the Admissionado team excel at crafting your story to demonstrate the qualities sought after by the adcom and there is no reason you will not obtain admission to one of your top choices.
