IMD was formed in 1990 with the merger of IMEDE and IMI. IMEDE dates from 1957 as an idependent foundation of the University of Lausanne for the training of executives. IMEDE started a one year MBA in 1972. IMI was an indepedent institute associated with the University of Geneva founded in 1946.

The current program lasts 10 months. This is small program with only about 90 entrants per year. There is also an Executive MBA program.

  • FT 2003 ranked IMD between Yale and Virginia.
  • EIU 2003 places IMD #9 worldwide - ahead of Michigan and Virginia.
