Overview (by Hjort)

MIT is located in the Boston Economic Area - the sixth largest economic area in the US.

Many of MIT's strength are what one would probably expect - Tech, Entrepreneurship/New Enterprises, Operations, and Finance. Another strength is International Business. One might say that it does not have the full array of strengths that characterize the other ultra elites, but it is exceptionally strong in Tech and stronger in most fields than the vast majority of schools in lower clusters.

• Ranking
  • FT 2005 ranks MIT #13 worldwide along with IMD and UC Berkeley. This makes MIT #10 among US schools.
  • EIU 2004 ranks MIT #16 worldwide - among US schools just below Duke and Yale and just above Cornell and UCLA.
  • The best showing on BW has been #4, the worst has been #15 (twice).
  • FT 2005 Value for Money: #88, #5 among the ultraelites.
