Re: 20 DAYS TO D - DAY ( FEB 15th) [#permalink]
Thanks BB .I would be more than happpy to provide specific details..

Apologies . I havent put my point correct and shouldn't have asked help on study plan blindly

This is what I would like to be clarified.

Since I have only 19 days to prepare, I would like to know whether there is any short term success story. How to improve verbal scores on concentrating the important things such as...where I could cover most of the part.

Honestly speaking , I thought this will be way of motivating myself and keeping myself turned in.I am not sure whether the suggestions will improve my verbal score dramatically , but surely will improve my confidence ( and you guys very well know that :) .

I hear you.
There is not anything magic or fast - verbal takes time and effort.
I suggest spending time reading books (GMAT Fiction) and practicing strategies. That's it. Stick to a strategy, and don't deviate, not by a bit.

You can also start working on studying grammar using Doing Grammar or Kaplan Verbal Foundations. If you are not happy with your result at the end, you may want to try Knewton - they have a 50-point guarantee, so you either get your money back or score 50 points more.

Also, for the last 20 days, make sure you have the right verbal books: best-gmat-verbal-prep-books-reviews-recommendations-78094.html

Thanks for that.

I have got Manhattan SC, Manhattan RC and Power Score CR .

SC -- will go through the Manhattan SC again
RC - haven't opened this yet..So will start with this
CR -have completed OG 12 questions.

As suggested I will try to get a basic grammar book also

Reading Comprehension
- Am Loving It

Completed MGMAT RC and started workin on OG RC questions and my success rate is good now. But I should also consider the fact that the difficulty of RC questions in OG increases towards the end.. so far so good. will let you know the progress on other questions..

also I will be taking a MGMAT CAT today..Let me post the results..

Re: 20 DAYS TO D - DAY ( FEB 15th) [#permalink]
just finished my sample CAT exam ( Manhattan TEST III) and I have hurt myself :(

Q 43 V 33 - 630

Quant:
- Made a big blunder..couldnt stop the clock ticking..felt like the questions were tougher than before.lost against time.

Worst Part - DS ( 6 out of 9 correct)
Best Part - PS ( yeah , I know PS is the only other part) 14 out of 22 correct

Verbal :

RC
- Took more time for RCs, got 7 out of 9 correct (first 3 passages)
- RC IV ( didnt have enough time, just browsed through and picked the answer ( 0 out of 3 correct )
- Total 7 / 12
SC
- 9/15
- silly mistakes in S-V
- Need to work out more SC problems
CR
- no matter what I do, CR is becoming tough day by day
- 5/14 correct. can attribute few questions to timing , but still lacking by metre.

Things to do
Verbal
- Do some magic for CR
- Work on timing for RC
- SC - refresh the basics and work on more problems.
Quans
- Timing Timing Timing ( Time is Money )
- Work out more DS problems after refreshing basics ( months since I studied those MGMAT books) .
Long way to go !

Week to Go !! ( FEB 15th) [#permalink]
Took GMAT PREP Test today and scored 640 ( Q 44 V 34) and all I have got is only 7 more days..

Quant:
- messed with time ( didnt have enought time at the end..had to spend less time and had to guess few)
- 2 incorrect in first 10 ( 1 silly mistake)
- 17 incorrect in total
- last 6 questions are incorrect ( not sure if this reduced my score)

Verbal :
- 3 incorrect in first 10
- 15 incorrect
- had to guess few questions at the end..( but wouldnt attribute this to the score)

My Confidence level has gone down..

to break into 700+

with Q 44 atleast need a V 40
with V 34 atleast need a Q 50 . Not sure which one should I go after.

would be happy to see comments and suggestions .

usually difference in performance is due to not following a clear strategy, esp for verbal (how to attack CR's, SC's and RC's).

You said nothing about your mistakes, but that's where you should be looking and finding a way to cut them as much as possible.

Re: 20 DAYS TO D - DAY ( FEB 15th) [#permalink]
thanks much bb

I have analysed my quant section and I should blame my timing and accuracy. so I will start working in that.

Verbal :
- 15 / 41 incorrect
- 8/16 SC incorrect
- 5/14 RC incorrect
- 2/11 CR incorrect

My weakness were CR and RC and I worked on some methods to improve RC and am comparably better now.
seems I have got a beating in Sentence Correction, which i was doing relatively better. I should start working on SC and CR.

Also I have not done anything to the essays, so I will be spending couple of days for that.
