If I buy a macbook air and use bootcamp for windows, what version of windows should I buy? Could I go for an OEM version? In short, how much extra will I need to spend to get windows 7 to run on my Macbook?
On a totally different note, has anyone tried Dell's Vostro V130? Seems great and excellent value (although battery life seems to be very short, but won't we be carrying our power adapters all day long anyway?).
Thanks
Vincent Hi Vincent, I have also looked the Dell Vostro v130 and seems a great laptop! Nice performance I have the previous version (1320) and it is robust and fast I am considering to upgrade to the new model

Hey everyone, For the mac-book lovers, did you decide on whether you'll stick with mac or PC for your b school laptops? I also have a mac currently and would love to stick with it. Anyone have opinions on the new Office for Mac? I hear the product has improved and comparable to the PC version. What do you think?

The new office for Mac is definitely better than the last version (especially the support for VBA and macros), but you'll probably still need to run a Windows VM with Excel for PCs since not all the add-ins that you'll use for class (eg. @Risk, MeXL) work even with the newest Mac Excel. That said, plenty of my classmates use Macs (and I switched over when my PC laptop died) and have had no problems either with using it for classwork or using the network and shared drives at school. So if you're a Mac person, there's no need to get a PC for school. As for which version of Windows to run on the VM, I'd check with your school's IT dept. They will be best able to tell you which version works with their infrastructure and may have student deals that are much cheaper than retail.

Thanks for your replies. Can a macbook air hold a full day on battery? Or do you still need to carry a power adapter with you ?

I am still a year away from b school but thought I'd plan in advance.

I don't know about the Air, but I have a Macbook Pro and the battery usually lasts me about 5-6 hrs depending on what I'm using. I usually carry the adapter with me since it's not that heavy and I'd rather not risk running out of battery.

Any updates? two great deals that I find out: http://www.officemax.com/catalog/sku.js ... D=k111512#Dell: http://www.techbargains.com/catsearch.cfm/0_3_0I can't decide yet, but so far this two seems like a nice trade between price and performance I'm also waiting for some back to schools deals, but the time to make a decision is coming! Have you decided?

Have you decided? I went with a Dell Vostro 3350. It was about 800 after all of the discounts and upgrades. - i5 2.3 Ghz - 4GB ram - ATI discrete graphics - Win 7 Pro - 13.3 inch screen - 7-9 hour battery - 4.8 lbs

Guys one quick question, I have a Sony VAIO laptop with 13" screen, 4GB Ram and 500GB HDD. But currently i am running Linux(Ubuntu) on it. Just wanted to know if its still okay to use Ubuntu while in BSchool? Do we need to install any specific tools or software's as a part of BSchool acads ? or only Office is sufficient?

I've been using a Mac for the past 4 years and consequently get very frustrated when I have to touch a PC. If it's standard software, such as Office, the Office for Mac would surely suffice...

Anybody tried using work laptop at school also ? I have a pretty sweet notebook from work, Lenovo X220, very light, I'm really tempted to use it for b-school, but I kinda like the idea of having a separate laptop for school/personal life
