Hey guys, sorry for posting a common question, just want to hear anyone's thoughts.

Took the GMAT today, got a 700, Q44V40 IR6. Thought I would do a little bit better since I got a 710 and 760 on GMATPrep. I've scored consistently in the 90's on verbal, if I retake the next month would be basically focused on Quant.

My range of schools is Kellogg-Mccombs. My background is probably pretty solidly average, GPA 3.5 in electrical engineering from a top 50 school.

How important would you weigh retaking?

700 is a good score. I tell my clients to shoot for 720 to secure a competitive application to a Top Ten / Ivy League. For Kellogg, I would retake if you really think you can bump your score up. Hit 720 or above, and it's a different ballgame. Hope this helps!

Just out of curiosity, when did you take? I got Q45 V40 last year, which was a 690.

That's why I'm anxious to get my official score. Everything I've seen shows they pushed my score up. I'll update once it's official.

I'm in the same boat. I just took the test yesterday and got Q43 and V42 and got a 700. Not sure if I should retake it. If you were to retake it I would assume you would focus on math. How would you prepare for it? I was thinking about one of those courses that guarantee a 50 point improvement or your money back. I would definitely be happy with a 750!

FWIW I had a 700 the first time I applied to schools, and got rejected. Later I signed up for Knewton with the 50 point $$$ back guarantee. I got a 760, and was accepted this time around.

If you are an average type candidate, a 700 makes your life hard at the top schools.

Very cool chromium. It looks like our scores were very similar. How long after did you retake it? Was there anything specific with math that you really struggled with? And how was Magoosh helpful. Thanks for any tips.

It was actually Knewton not Magoosh that I used (corrected in my initial post). My original score was Q44, V41. I struggled with random topics across the board but mostly with my ability to manage large amounts of data/calculations in a time efficient manner. A lot of practice and worked on mental math as well. I took the test in April 2011 I think, got rejected in 2012, then did not sit for it again until February 2013.
