Hi All,
I took GMAT on 4th.
Score summary:
Q 50 (95 percentile)
V 41 (91 percentile)
730 (97 percentile)
I found this group a couple of weeks before the exam. This is a great resource for anyone planning to take GMAT. The lessons on probability and combinations were specifically helpful to refresh my understanding in those areas.
Preparation:
I prepared around 4-5 hours a day for 4 weeks for the exam.
Mainly I used
Official Guide, Kaplan, princeton review and a little bit of Nova.
In the first week, I studied one day for each of 5 categories(SC, RC, CR, PS and DS)mainly reading material and doing 50 questions from
OG and then took a diagnostic test at the end of the week(Kaplan, I got 600 in that).
Then I planned for 2-3 days each for each category depending upon what my strengths and weeknesses were, taking a test on sundays.
And in the last week, I took a test everyday.
I found that I was doing ok in RC from
OG but would get many wrongs on computer tests. Also time management was a big problem with me, in the tests I always had to rush in the end and guess 2-3 questions.
This was because when I got stuck at a question, before I knew I would have spent 8-9 minutes on it. So I set some checkpoints to check against to see if I absolutely had to move on, something like
Quant.
Question number Time
0 75
15 40
20 30
25 20
30 12
Verbal (dont remember exactly)
0 75
15 45
20 35
25 26
30 17
35 9
I took 3 Kaplan, 5 princeton(4 from CD and one from website) and 2 ETS.
Kaplans - 600,660 and 650.
Princeton - 680-710-730 (dont remember others)
ETS - 780-780(these in my opinion, were not accurate since some questions on this in verbal section were directly from
OG, and I remembered the answers for them).
Doing so many tests helped me, because in early the tests towards the end of the test, when I had 8-9 minutes remaining, I used to panic and not do so well on those questions. With practice that part improved and I was able to do be calm and do much better on last questions than I used to.
Test
====
Reached the test center, around 8:15. Started the test at 8:50. They don't even let you take water with you for the test. The test was ok, the time table I had created helped a bit, but I again got stuck at one of the question and I spent more time on it than I would have liked(not 8-9 minutes as I used to though) and I had to rush through last questions. Same thing with verbal.
All in all it was good. even though with better time management it could have been better, my aim was to get 700+ score and I am happy with what I got.
This forum was very helpful and I hope to be able to contribute in some way.
Thanks.
